The Great Westchase Race

West Park Village

Marking its 15th run, The Great West Chase has become a fall tradition, kicking off the cool running season for many Tampa Bay runners. The race offers a kids run, both 5K and 10K distances and the focus is raising funds for literacy programs for local schools - this year its Bellamy Elementary.  Beginning in West Park Village at the base of Montague Street, the race proceeds west on Linebaugh Avenue (and, in the case of the 10K, north on Countryway Boulevard) before returning and finishing near its start.  Wear some funny Halloween costumes and run/walk for a great cause.  Learn More.


5K Bakas Charity Trail Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk/Trot

Bakas Equestrian Center, Tampa

Run a race and support local therapeutic horseback riding programs at the same time. This race benefits the Bakas Equestrian Center and “Horses for the Handicapped” a 501(c)3 non-profit. The off-road course runs through the facility grounds and around Whisper Lake. It’s not advertised as a mud run, but you’ll get one through part of the course anyway. Learn more.

Sports Fan 5K

Saturday, November 12
Coachman Park, Clearwater

This out and back route goes over the Clearwater Memorial Causeway and is a chip-timed race. All proceeds benefit Clearwater for Youth, an organization that helps children have the opportunity to play sports no matter what their financial situation may be. Learn more.

Florida’s Greatest Seafood 5K

Rusty Bellies Waterfront Grille, Tarpon Springs

You can’t live in this area without checking out the “greatest seafood 5K” in Florida, can you? This out and back race benefits the Boys and Girls Club which might be enough of a reason to participate. But wait, there’s more. Waterset 5K Turkey Trot

Waterset, Apollo Beach

No Thanksgiving (or fall) is complete without a Turkey Trot. You’ll feel less guilty about all the food you eat if you run or walk a 5K first. This is an easy flat course, and the race is chip-timed.
